For the most part, I’m holding up really well. But yes, I may at any given moment spontaneously burst into tears.

Can you deal with it?

Sometimes tears are good. It helps people dealing with pain to remember that they still have a heart warm enough to melt, vulnerable enough to break, and a spirit that’s trusting enough to risk being wounded. Being able to cry reaffirms that there is still hope, that something deep inside realizes the pain and is trying to cope. Because as C.S. Lewis said: “We are the pottery, His love sometimes is a chisel. It sometimes hurts but is necessary to shape us into a useful piece of pottery.” Johanna, I do hope that you never feel that crying when you’re feeling bad, or hurt; is a bad thing. Like your dad once told me: “Sometimes all we can do is cry. Cry, cry, cry. We don’t know how to ask for help. We don’t even know what we really want. But the shepherd hears our cries, picks us up, and delivers us back to the bunkhouse.”

Yes. You’re worth it.
